Slow Bear Studio

Making nice bits and bobs, by the sea and sand in Edinburgh. Katie loves using colour, texture and mixed media to create playful works.

Art and design have been a life-long interest and passion for Katie. With roots in pottery and painting, she has been encouraged to develop a diverse range and style of work. In 2011 she moved to Edinburgh where she has continued her craft practice, alongside working with children, and raising her two wee girls. Her love of creativity inspires a broad practice: curating markets, running workshops, commissioned illustrations and making prints and jewellery.

Time with her family, and work with children encourages a playful approach to life. She is using this inspiration for ongoing work, finding shapes and exploring ideas while dancing on the beach and playing in the waves. Experimenting with clay on canvas and using colour and texture to create movement in her work.

Katie studied jewellery and silversmithing in Glasgow, glass and ceramics in Finland, and completed a degree in Three-Dimensional Design at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen before settling by the sea in Edinburgh.
